Armorial of the Polish Nobility – a new series of numismats

Crests are now to be found everywhere you look. Both historic and new ones.

Today, everywhere you look you can see various emblems belonging to states, voivodeships, counties, municipalities, villages, papacy, dioceses, bishopries, monasteries, universities, families as well as individuals. All of them made using different techniques and in various styles. Many have already appeared on numismats. Now it is time for a selection of the most important crests of the Polish nobility to be presented in the noble form of coins. The idea, however, is not to copy the works of old masters, but to create a well thought-out synthesis of the most recent historical knowledge and stylization catering for the artistic tastes of contemporary public.

The most recent, long awaited product of the Mint of Poland is now finally available. In cooperation with the Polish Nobility Association (Związek Szlachty Polskiej), the Mint of Poland has struck the first numismat from the ‘Armorial of the Polish Nobility’ series.
Recognizing a considerable interest in heraldry, the Mint of Poland has decided to present crests of the most distinguished Polish noble families. The first is the crest of the Jastrzębiec family (called Jastrzębiec). Other crests will include the following: Doliwa, Kościesza, Korczak and Rogala.
The emission was first announced already a few months ago. From the very beginning we have been observing great interest in the new series and its theme. We hope that the whole series will be of interest for collectors of numismats as well as all those with a passion for heraldry.

The graphic design is a work of Waldemar Malinowski – designer and member of the Polish Nobility Association. Plaster models were produced by the recognized medal artist, author, inter alia, of the designs for such coins as Sedov and Dar Pomorza – Dobrochna Surajewska. Our heraldry expert is Kaj Małachowski – a member and heraldic consultant of the Polish Nobility Association.

Each numismat is accompanied by an information booklet containing a detailed description of the crest and information on the Jastrzębiec family.
