Heart-shaped coins for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity

For the first time ever in the history of Polish numismatics, the Mint of Poland has minted heart-shaped coins.

These are 10-zloty coins for the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity (GOCC) which will be available at the beginning of 2012. The minting of the coins in the Mint of Poland was started by Jurek Owsiak and the President of the National Bank of Poland - Marek Belka. The first one hundred coins - hearts was affixed with a special certificate and will be given for the GOCC auction.
This issue is supplemented by 2-zloty coins commemorating the 20 Grand Finale of GOCC which were also made by the Mint of Poland minters.
It is worth remembering that the Mint of Poland is a sole producer of gold hearts which are auctioned during the Orchestra's Grand Finales. So far, we have minted almost 9 thousand of the hearts.
The resources obtained from the people of good will, including the numismatics enthusiasts will be assigned by GOCC to purchase devices used for saving lives of prematurely born children and insulin pumps for pregnant diabetic women.
