The COTY award for the Polish coin
During the World Money Fair in Berlin 2010, the coin struck in the Mint of Poland at the order of the National Bank of Poland was awarded in the COTY (COIN OF THE YEAR) competition.
In the category of the coin of the highest artistic value, the Polish “65th Anniversary of Warsaw Ghetto Uprising” gold coin with the face value of PLN 200 appeared unrivalled. The designer of the coin is Ms. Urszula Walerzak.
The COTY awards are granted by Krause Publications, the American publishing house, on the basis of the verdict of the jury composed of 12 mint general managers of six continents, chiefs of six numismatic cabinets, six national numismatic associations, 11 numismatic experts, four journalists and 10 publishing house representatives. The coins produced in the year 2008 were assessed. At the ceremony held on January 30 during the Berlin fairs, both the National Bank of Poland and the Mint of Poland were presented with relevant testimonials. The competition has been held for over 30 years.
The Mint of Poland once again made its presence felt at the World Money Fair. It is a highly prestigious numismatic event attended by more than 50 mints and central banks from all over the world as well as commercial companies and coin enthusiasts. Our stand was visited by thousands of people, not only the experts but also people seeking beauty depicted on the currency pieces.
