Wrocław will Have the Electronic Ticket

On 1 July 2010 hundreds of thousands of Wrocław’s inhabitants will be able to switch from paper bus and tram period tickets to electronic tickets as part of the Wrocław Municipal Card system.

As part of the system the inhabitants of Wrocław as well as its visitors will also be able to purchase traditional tickets using, apart from cash, payment cards, mobile phones as well as the Internet. The Mint of Poland has entered with the city into a contract for the servicing the system.

The Wrocław Municipal Card system implemented by the Mint of Poland will be the most modern system in Poland and one of the leading in Europe. Comparable solutions are being used only by London, out of all European cities.
The system will be servicing all types of tickets used in the capital of the Lower Silesia region. Until 1 July 2010 the Mint of Poland will have introduced an electronic ticket proximity cards, either personalized or not. Passengers will not be charged any extra sums for issuing their first card. The personalized card will bear a photo and signature of its owner.

The Wrocław Municipal Card system will be integrated with electronic students’ cards as well as with suburbean train lines connecting the city with nearby localities. Five customer service points will be established in Wrocław, in which passengers will be able to file their application and receive their card, as well as refill them.

Additionally, the Mint of Poland will install and activate machines selling traditional paper tickets using payment cadrs, including the Visa Wave and MasterCard Paypass proximity cards, in all 800 of Wrocław’s buses and trams. All the major points of the city will also have the total of 100 fixed selling machines that accept cash as well as payment cards and give change.

For those that wish to pay for their ticket using their mobile phone we will activate a special service of payment by phone. What is more, the Mint of Poland will create an Internet portal that will make it possible to refill the cards as well as send an application for a card to be issued. All the additional functionalities will be implemented not later than within 8 months from the first card ticket being issued. The tickets will also be available from 100 newsagents’ points.
