Over centuries they were owned mostly by affluent private collectors and patrons of art. In the turmoil of history some of them vanished without trace.
However, missing works of art still are an important part of our culture. The Mint of Poland would like to eternalize the artistic heritage of our country that became irreversibly lost for future generations.

The Pontifical of Płock, a medieval liturgical book owned by the cathedral chapter in Płock, was appropriated by the Germans during World War II. Our minters, well-known for their exquisite craftsmanship, commemorated it in pure silver!
In the central part of the coin – stylized empty frame adorned with selective gilding. Inside it – inscriptions: NIUE ISLAND (issuer), 2015 (year of issue),1 DOLLAR (face value), Ag 999 (hallmark), m/w (mint mark). On the bottom – effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in an oval frame with inscriptions: ELIZABETH II, UTRACONE DZIEŁA SZTUKI (name of the series).
In the central part of the coin – multi-colored image of the Pontifical of Płock. Left-hand – Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Masovia in Płock. Against the manuscript – fragment of the Cathedral’s bronze doors. Along the bottom rim – 3 SWAROVSKI ELEMENTS. Along the right rim, vertically – decorative strip derived from the Cathedral’s bronze doors. Along the upper rim – inscription: PONTYFIKAŁ PŁOCKI (name of the coin).
